Hunter Ceiling Fans 23855 Original Classic 52" Fan - Black Cast Iron Indoor Fan 52" Review

(More customer reviews)I've always been a Hunter fan (gosh that's funny!), and wanted to spend a little more on their Original Classic. I am glad I did. Every part of the fan is of higher quality. The blades have real wood veneer on each side (walnut and oak); not the wood look vinyl.
The motor housing is cast iron (over 40 pounds! be careful) and uses oil (tube include) to continuously bathe the ball bearings and circulates to other vital areas. Hence, this fan comes with a lifetime warranty. They say the oil should never have to be replaced or added to, but the level should be checked every 5 years.
They kept the old Classic look and design but improved the efficiency. It has an Energy Star rating and is the most efficient model I've ever owned (I have 2 other new Hunter fans which are not as efficient; still good though). The efficiency ratings are shown on the outside top of the box.
It's a great fan.

(More customer reviews)The fan looks and works great now, but it was not fun to install. I have an old-style metal electrical box in the ceiling that is braced to the ceiling joists on either side. Well, this fan install requires screwing wood screws into a structural member above the box, which I did not have. So I installed one. Next, I discovered that the old box was more narrow than newer boxes, which the fan connector plate could not account for and it was deep, which the wood screws could not account for. I ended up having to make a run to the home improvement store to buy 4" screws and then retrofit the fan connector plate to accept them. If this does not sound like fun to you, make sure you have a new electrical box or steer clear of Hunter.

TW Channel Wireless Rain Gauge White WS-9005TWC-IT-CBP Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this gauge about 9 months ago. It is mounted about 60 feet from the receiver and it picks up the signal through window glass and around a small obstruction. I've compared the gauge readings with the television weather report and they often match within 0.1", so mine is very accurate.
Pro: The gauge is continuous and doesn't require dumping water. You don't get wet reading the rainfall. It seems to be very accurate and reads in the hundredths of an inch.
Cons: The three year battery life reported by Lacrosse is a joke; it's about 9 months for the transmitter. also, when you replace one set of batteries in the transmitter, you need to remove the batteries in the receiver to reset the signal; I had to do it a couple of times to work.

Hunter Fan 20493 52-Inch Bingham Ceiling Fan, Cocoa Review

(More customer reviews)Had an electrician install the Bingham fan. Very little air movement, tried reverse, was even worse. Contacted Hunter who said, oh this doesn't have a good CFM(?) rating. Nice to know now. They told me to return it to the vendor and get a different one. But....trying to find out how this works because I now have to pay the electrician to remove it, and then install a new one. Does Amazon send a shipping label to return fan? Not sure. May never buy Hunter again.

(More customer reviews)We have very contemporary high gloss black bedroom furnature.. finding a nice fan and one that matches was very hard to do, but this fan looks great and with a 15 degree pitch it really moves the air! It was subtantially more weight than our previous fan but due to the clever way Casablanca allows you to mount your fan inside the cowling it was simple to install if you have the right tools. The remote works great too and removes the need to addtional wiring for the light. The light can also be used as a dimmer. This is a faily expensive fan, but its worth the money as I said, solid and well built...

Hunter Fan 23963 70-Inch Stockbridge Ceiling Fan, New Bronze Review

(More customer reviews)I'm writing this review because I always find it helpful to read others reviews when considering a purchase. I could only find 1 review of this fan anywhere on line, so here goes.
This fan looks great and works great. The only negative would be the small lights, they are the small, decorative, max 45 or 60 watt bulbs. This fan/light does not put out a ton of light, but we didn't buy it for that. The light is fine, it just isn't super powerful. The fan on the other hand rocks. We had considered 2 other fans, but they both had questionable reviews as to the amount of air they moved. That is not an issue with this fan. On all 3 settings, you can feel the air, on medium and high, it really moves.
We have this fan mounted in a large great room roughly 10 feet above us, it sits on a 5' downrod and then the unit with light is an additional 18 inches. It looks gorgeous, really moves air, and I installed a dual, single switch that controls the fan and light on the same switch and that worked out great as well. We can feel a breeze from the room while standing in the kitchen near the entrance to the great room. Airflow is not an issue with this fan.
The only other issue with installation is the length of your downrod. Mine is 5 feet, so the motor wires were too short to run the whole length and running the stiffer Remco wires made it a bit difficult to attach the downrod to the motor housing, but you basically just have to go in reverse and pull the wires back through the top of the downrod to take out the slack so you can connect the downrod to the motor, and then put the whole thing together up at the base on the ceiling.
Summary: Great fan, lots of air, beautiful finish and look, small lights, but we are totally satisfied and happy we got this fan. We have bumped up our thermostat 5 to 6 degrees and not noticed a difference in comfort.

Everytime I put it on the setting for Gather it makes a big knot in one spot, and that's it. The instructions are very small, and not clear in my opinion. There is really no where that I have found for instructions online either. So unless you already know how to use this, or have someone who can show you I think you may end up very frustrated (like me).

La Crosse Technology BC500 Alpha Power Battery Charger Review

(More customer reviews)I have very mixed feelings about the new La Crosse Technology BC500 Alpha Power Battery Charger. On one hand, I see it as a severely 'dumbed down' version of the La Crosse BC-700 (which itself is one step below the original BC-900). But on the other hand, I can also see it as a simpler, more portable charger for people who don't appreciate the complexity of its older brothers. With that in mind... The Game is Afoot! (whatever that means)
[Size]
The BC500 is a lot smaller and thinner than the BC-900/700 (See my Customer Images for size comparison). Smaller size makes the BC500 more suitable as a travel charger, but also makes removing cells in the middle even more difficult than before. The base is also very flimsy. Just by slightly twisting the unit, I can make the charger shut off.
[AC Adapter]
The BC500's AC adapter accepts universal voltage of 100-240V, and outputs 12V DC. This is an important improvement from previous design of 3V, because it allows the charger to operate from 12V car battery through the included cigarette lighter adapter.
[Display]
The BC500 has a 4-column display which is smaller than that found on BC-700. The good news is that the new display has much better contrast, making it easier to read in dim light. The bad news is that it shows less information than before:
- The resolution is only 2.5 digits instead of 3.5 digits. For example, it can only display '1.23 Ah' instead of '1234 mAh'.
- The 'elapse time' of the present operation is not displayed.
- During charging, it only shows 'Voltage' and "% charged' (which is a rough estimate based on voltage and time).
[Control]
The BC500 has only one mode-control button. If you insert one cell, it automatically starts charging after 8 seconds. To change operation mode, you just have to press and hold the control button for 3 to 6 seconds.
Note that the BC-700's 'CURRENT' and 'DISPLAY' buttons are not available. That's because the BC500 has only one fixed charging current (manual says 500mA approximately, but I have seen it vary between 0.46 and 0.55A), and its display toggles automatically every 5 seconds.
The 'slot-selection' buttons in BC-700 are gone as well. That means you cannot apply different operation to different cells.
[Operations]
Three operations are available to the BC500:
1. CHARGE: Starts charging at a fixed current until the cell is full.
2. DISCHARGE: Starts by discharging the cell completely at 300mA approximately, then recharge it to full again.
3. TEST: Start by fully charging the cell, then discharge it completely to measure the capacity, finally recharge it to full again.
The BC-700's Refresh/Discharge operation is not available on the BC500. That means it is impossible to use BC500 to measure the remaining charge in a cell.Bottom Line:
- If you love all the functions and flexibility offered by BC-700, then the BC500 is most likely a let-down to you.
- If you love your BC-700 but wish you can use it in the car, then the BC500 makes a good travel charger.
- If you feel that you need something more powerful than the typical charger, but was intimated by the complexity of BC-700, then it is Elementary: the BC500 is a perfect match for you!
[Update on May 26, 2010]
The price of BC500 has dropped significantly during the past 2 months (from over $38 to around $30). I consider it an excellent value at the present price point.
