(More customer reviews)Ordered these for my mother who had recently purchased a Brother CS6000I sewing machine, with uses the larger (11.5mm, 7/16th-inch) bobbins. Although (at least at the time of purchase) this product appeared when you searched for the correct Brother part number AND the CS6000I appeared as a buying suggestion on this item's product page, it is important to note that these bobbins are of the smaller type, therefore NOT compatible with the Brother CS6000I. Since "customers who bought this product also bought" the CS6000I, it looks as if it might be a common mistake.
The product itself seems to be of good quality if you need the smaller bobbins, but the important compatibility information that is present on the back of the packaging is missing on the product page.

Singer 3116.RF Simple 18-Stitch Mechanical Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The reason I gave the Simple Singer 3116 a one star was because there is no zero star. I bought a brand new one. Do not waste your time or your hard earned money. I would be embarassed to put my name on anything that hookie. Chinese made. The bobbin jammed over and over and over the first day I started to use it. Singer said, " it might be off timing ". It's brand new for crying out loud. The instruction video was superb. But that's where it ended. The product is really frustrating.
Let me tell you about the bobbin. It sits in a half moon shaped depression that you slide a " hook " into and then while holding that easily disgorged piece with one hand you have to slide the race over all that and then clip " dog ears " over each side to hold it in place. Then you take the bobbin and slide it in to the center post. I can't think of anything more prone to failure than that design except perhaps just tossing those parts in there without even dog earring them.
From the Singer Customer Svc CTR apparently this is not new to them. They said the electronic units do not have " this problem ".
Hope this helps with your decision making. I wish I had seen this prior to buying mine.

Singer CE-100 Futura Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

(More customer reviews)What makes this product so attractive is that by connecting it to a computer you can get an endless amount of embroidery designs. It is also a full feature sewing machine.
I bought this item for my wife's birthday. It does everything that is advertised. The sewing functions are straight forward, and everything worked as it should.
The embroidery isn't as staight forward. The instructions are very poor, and limited. Although I have to admit, that I figured most of it out fairly quickly. The embroidery is slow, and of course you have to change thread for every color change in your pattern. The designs came out looking good. I also downloaded some free designs from other sites, and they worked just as well.
My problem with this machine is two fold. The one we bought broke after only a few hours of use. It was a minor problem. The bobbin holder had a crack where the tension screw goes in. At first everything was fine, but within a few hours the thread started catching in the crack until it was unusable. I'm sure that this won't be a problem for most customers.
The second problem is much more severe in my opinion. No one has parts for the machine, and it's near impossible to even get a parts list. One item that doesn't come with the machine that my wife wanted was a zipper foot. The part number for that item was listed in the book, but when I went to find it, absolutely no one had it. I even wrote Singer's part's department, and they wrote back telling me to call.
It's a neat machine. As long as you get one that works, and aren't concerned about parts availability, I don't think you can find a better ebroidery machine for less money.

Singer 7463 Confidence 30-Stitch Electronic Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The first one I got was in Jan '09. It lasted me until June, and I started having a lot of problems with it. It started making terrible noises, sounded awful, wouldn't sew straight, stitches were inconsistent, tension was messing up intermittently I had to stop using it for vacation, got back and it was worse than ever. I sent it in for service (it took 3 weeks) and they sent it back saying they had adjusted the tension and found nothing wrong. It worked quietly for about 10 minutes, and then started freaking out again. I took it back and they swapped it out for a new one . The new one started having problems with feeding the fabric and rattling by the second day. The pressure on the presser foot was off, and there was no way of adjusting it. No way to lower the feed dogs either. I ended up returning it for a refund.
I was really disappointed with the quality of this machine. I wanted it to work well, and it did... briefly. It seems Singer has really lowered the bar with their quality standards.

Singer Talent Sewing Machine, 3323S Review

I've been sewing since middle school, and in fact, I used to make all my clothes in high school, being long on height and at the time, short on wardrobe funds. Even now, I like to sew my summer clothes, as it's easy to whip up a skirt in a pretty floral pattern that may take me 20 minutes to sew and cost me next to nothing. I also enjoy making home decor items and accessories such as bags.
I own several sewing machines, from a very old mechanical machine as old as I am, to a modern electronic machine that embroiders and practically sews by itself. I was interested to see what this basic machine can do, and here's what I found
Type of Sewing Machine
The "Talent" is a starter machine or a basic machine, meaning, it does most sewing tasks, and is suitable for a beginning sewist or for someone who wants to do most sewing tasks and perhaps does not have the budget for a more advanced machine. This is a mechanical machine, meaning you change stitches (say, from straight to zigzag or stretch stitch) via a mechanical knob, not electronically. There is no LCD screen, no touch pad, and no ability to do embroidery. The good news is that this kind of machine tends to be very rugged; no chips to burn out or LCD to go blank. This machine, given good care, should last for years and deliver a lot of sewing power.
The machine is definitely most suited to garment and home decor sewing. It produces a beautifully straight stitch, and has enough fancy stitches to do most home sewing designs.
Features
The "Talent" has a lot of good features
1. One-Step Buttonhole. This is unusual on a mechanical machine. Most mechanical sewing machines rely on a four-step buttonhole, where you stitch down one side, do a bar tack, stitch in reverse back down the other side of the buttonhole, then bar tack the end (hopefully, you were able to end up at your starting place, and that you marked your buttonholes all the same length and the CORRECT length.) A one-step buttonhole uses a foot with a place to insert a button. This tells the machine where to start and stop the bar tacks, making for uniform buttonholes that are the right length for your chosen button.
There is only one style of buttonhole (plain tight satin stitch, straight bar tacks) but the fact this can do a one-step is reason enough to strongly consider the "Talent" as a do-all machine or a great machine to start a youngster on.
There is also an included button sewing foot; this is an open-ended foot that grips a button in place and allows you to sew it on using the machine; handy if making shirts with lots of buttons.
2. There are many accessory feet included. This is generous; my more expensive machine only came with a few feet and these items can add quite a bit onto the base machine price. The Talent includes a gathering foot (great for ruffles on pillows and girl's dresses), a buttonhole and button sewing foot, a zigzag foot (standard) a zipper foot, a quilting guide, a walking foot and an edge cutter, for overcasting and trimming seams. These could easily add up to an extra hundred or so over the purchase price. The feet fit into a nicely design extension piece; remove it to sew narrow hems around sleeves and trouser legs. It is the pull-off kind, not a drawer, and the accessories fit inside, nicely held in place by a lid. Most of these extension piece/storage boxes are simple tubes and the items inside fly out when you pull it off the machine. Very good design.
3. The stitches include basic ones, but sufficient for most tasks: zigzag, rick-rack, feather stitch, stretch stitch, and twenty or so more including blind hem, smocking and edge overcasting stitch. You choose your stitch on the knob selector; one stitch will be adjustable in width, the other paired stitch is selected by the "S" setting on the stitch length knob and is automatically sewn by the machine (for example, the feather stitch.) There are 23 stitches in all. The stitches are even; in fact, the straight stitch is MORE even than my electronic machine costing 3x as much. Partly, this would be due to the fact that this is a mechanical machine, but even so, I found the machine produces excellent stitches with hardly any coaxing.
There is the ability to free-sew by covering the feed dogs (the toothed gears that move fabric beneath the presser foot.) The feed dogs do NOT drop down as in some machines. A plastic plate is included to allow you to either sew on a button or to use the darning/embroidery foot for free sewing. This is something quilters do use frequently.
The machine includes a needle threader. It's made of metal and is very sturdy. It has a side thread cutter which I found a tad dull (could have been a bit sharper) and a clear bobbin window and a drop in bobbin. Easy to see if your thread is running low. Of course, there is a bobbin winder on top.
The side cutter is optional to use, but is included; you can mount it on the side and choose to overcast and trim your seams. It can only be used with overlock or regular zigzag stitch. This replicates part of what a serger does,that is, it overcasts and trims extra seam allowance for a finished effect. A serger sews a seam AND finishes and overcasts all at the same time and sews a lot faster than a sewing machine. This machine is fast but not the fastest on the block. If you need a serger, you need a serger, and at this price, you could add a Brother Serger and between the two machines, you'd be well equipped to sew clothing. I like to use a serger on straight seams and any seams that need finishing; the side cutter is nice to have, but a serger is a lot more useful and faster, too.
There is an auxiliary spool pin, to insert in the top, for using a double needle for top stitching along with a second spool of thread.
The manual is EXCEPTIONALLY WELL WRITTEN, WELL-ORGANIZED and THOROUGH. I highlight this as many machines have sketchy manuals and they are not written well at all. This manual is a short, thick, pamphlet, with lots of illustrations and is written in English, French and Spanish. The Singer Company should be proud of the job they've done on this manual; most of the manuals are not very good and this one is excellent.
What's Not Included
1. This machine does not have a foot-less start-stop. This is a handy feature if you quilt. Nor is there a way to adjust speed except using the foot pedal. Since coordinating free motion when quilting is easier if you don't have to coordinate your foot and your hands, this is not an ideal machine for quilters, although it certainly can be used for quilting. More advanced quilting machines will have the start-stop without the pedal and a speed adjustment bar, plus drop-down feed dogs. If quilting is your passion, you may want to consider a different machine.
2. There is no automatic needle up, needle down feature or needle memory. This is a feature where the needle stays down or up when you stop sewing, and really adds to sewing efficiency. Nor is there an automatic thread cutter.
I did not see a presser foot pressure adjustment, handy for light and heavy fabrics. However, the presser foot has an extra-high lift, which is good for thick fabrics.
Who Should Buy This Machine?
If you intend to sew children's clothing, your own clothes, mend garments, sew home items, and if you don't want to spend a fortune on a machine or if you are a beginner, this is an EXCELLENT choice of machine. If you have a budding sewist, this machine is rugged but full of features that do the job. I found the straight stitch to be extremely regular and even, a failing of many more expensive machines. The light is bright and the controls well marked and easy to use. There are sufficient feet included to make this a great choice on a budget; you don't have to supplement this machine with many, if any, accessories.
Who Might Want to Pass on This Machine?
If you are a very experienced sewist, this could be your battleship machine, something to do rugged tasks. I would not suggest it as a traveling-light machine; it weighs about 12 lbs and is not as light as some of the little 3/4 machines that people use to take to sewing meets.
However, if you are a quilter and sew a lot, the lack of some of the modern features like needle-up-down memory and footless control are a drawback. If you want embroidery, fonts, a lot of decorative stitches, or more buttonhole styles such as keyhole, hand stitched style, stretch, then this is not the machine.
Summary
This is a rugged, feature-rich, and pretty machine with all the right notes for basic sewing. The features have been chosen with care to suit most sewing needs, and this is a great machine for sewing clothing and doing home decor. For the price, I'd say this would qualify as a great value and unless you need an advanced electronic machine, this would be a great choice for most people's basic sewing needs.

While the criticism about plastic parts is fair, the body is solid metal and heavy and the motor is extremely powerful. It's very easy to use, and the self adjusting tension is great, as I hate messing around with tension. the light could be brighter but overall I'm really happy with it. Singer Tradition 2250 Portable Sewing Machine Review

We found the DVD that came with the machine very helpful and between that and the owner's manual the setup was easy. Since then she is using it from time to time and, as it fulfills all our needs at an affordable price, we must give it a high rating.
We would have hated to pay more for a sewing machine with more features that we were not going to use. This is a good reliable machine that fulfills our need for simplicity and ease of operation.

SINGER 8770 Curvy Model Sewing Machine Review

The machine is sturdy and I agree with other comments that threading, tension adjustment and most sewing is very easy with this machine. The reason it doesn't get a 5 star is because Singer (the company) cut corners on it. Most machines at this price point (mid-tier) have enough features to take you to intermediate sewing levels. One key feature that differentiates beginner sewing from intermediate sewing is the ability to create perfect straight stitches. The most difficult straight stitches are in curves (as in princess seams) and in difficult to sew or sheer fabrics (i.e. slippery silks, chiffons, organzas, lace, etc). That's when you need to use a straight stitch throat place in your machine; not doing so invites skipped and uneven stitches. Singer chose not to build an additional throat plate for this machine.

Most machines brands similar in price provide this plate as an accessory you can buy. I assumed Singer would as well so I bought the machine without checking. Now I'm stuck with a machine that's overpriced but still performs at beginner levels. Make sure that if you're going to pay more $500 or more on your machine, this machine will allow you to sew for at least 4-6 years. Assuming your sewing ability will increase, the machine should have all the features you will need by the end of its useful life.

Singer 7442 Electronic Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)Sews okay, although the foot feed is very sticky - that is, it won't go and won't go and then suddenly takes off like a goosed horse. Has several features I don't like much: needle ends stitch in "up" position which makes it hard to pivot; reverse lever is in a different spot than any other machine I have ever seen or used; "decorative" stitches aren't particularly good or decorative; satin stitch width and length is hard to program in, unravels and looks crappy; and, finally, the buttonhole feature has major problems [1] it starts at the bottom of the marked buttonhole rather than the top (hard to see if you are on course) [2] it works backward from any other buttonhole feature I've seen or used and [3] the buttonholes look very amateurish -even after all possible adjustments the stitches are too far apart so that the buttonhole frays and unravels, plus because the feature has a programmed backstitch to start, it often jams. So far these poor quality buttonholes have ruined two or three garments. The whole machine seems over-engineered. Note: I've been sewing mostly clothes for 50 years now and have used many brands of machine, this isn't the worst but it is the worst for the price.

SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Singer 4423 Heavy Duty because I wanted a more powerful replacement for my older but reliable Singer sewing machine. I wanted to able to sew a variety of projects using denim, canvas, leather, or other heavy fabrics with better results than what I was currently getting. I liked the simple design and straightforward operation of the 4423. It has a good selection of stitches (both functional and decorative) and some other nice-to-have features like adjustable needle position, automatic threader, and the one-step button hole which I was especially excited about. The other "Heavy Duty" Singers don't have these features.
When I started using it, the first thing I noticed was the less-than-stellar quality of some of the decorative stitches, but I figured that it wasn't really a big deal because I do a lot of hand embroidery and don't use those stitches that often. I decided to do a little "test project" on the machine: a zippered pouch with denim lining. The machine ran quickly and quietly on the pima cotton shell and putting the zipper in was a breeze. I was disappointed, however, with how poorly the machine handled the multiple layers of denim in the lining. It started knocking loudly and a few times stopped completely when sewing over a bulky seam, i.e. the feed dogs couldn't pull the fabric through. I rethreaded the machine, adjusted the stitch length, tension, and anything else I could think of that would be cause for "operator error". It didn't help. I guess the machine just isn't as powerful as they chalk it up to be.
I would recommend this machine as an excellent starter for a beginning seamstress. It's a bit more substantial than most of the other "entry level" machines but still has those nice features I mentioned earlier without a very big price tag.
For anyone who wants a TRUE heavy duty machine...this is not for you. I would recommend upgrading to a non-heavy duty machine in a better brand. That is, if you can afford it. I ended up buying a machine that was twice the cost but performs twice as well too. 9 layers of denim, no problem! For me, it's worth the investment.

(More customer reviews)I've worked with those really old, big, and clunky sewing machines when I was about 8-13 years old under my mom's and grandmother's supervision. Now I'm 25, and recently decided I needed a sewing machine of my own. I don't have room for any big machine similar to what I was used to, so I thought a small portable one should do the job for me.
I got a really cheap $30 set from Walgreens, and that stopped working 5 minutes out of the box. Figured I ought to be a little more serious, so I opted to spend more than I really wanted to get this. I am very glad that I did.
I just got it today. The manual is super easy to understand. I'd never threaded a machine on my own before, but there is even a numbered guide right on the machine to tell you where the top thread goes. The guide on the machine plus the very simple instructions in the manual made threading the thing a breeze.
With the foot pedal, it's fairly easy to control the speed. I've read some reviews on similar machines (a Brother one, in particular, that I was also looking at) with complaints of it going from 0 to 100 with nothing in between. Not so with this one.
It's really quiet. It's a little awkward having the top spool horizontal, but it works. It's a little heavier than I expected, but that makes it more sturdy. It has a little storage compartment that's really convenient and a nice way to keep everything in one place. It has a little lever for reverse sewing, which I really like. Comes with a neat little cover that has a slot at the top for the carrying handle.
Overall, it is a very straightforward machine that works great, is simple to use and easy to understand.

Brother CE4000 Lightweight Computerized Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)This is a pretty nice machine, especially for $150 bucks. It's pretty fast but not too fast and you can adjust your speed easy. It comes with a very useful guide on how to do everything from threading it to making a bobbin to making a buttonhole. My major problem with it is that it can be kind of a drama queen about the bobbin and if you don't make it exactly right then the machine's tension goes all out of wack and you have to make the bobbin again. Most machines are like that though, so whatever. It has some nice stitch functions and can do two needle. For what you're paying you're getting a good deal. It's lasted me for around eight months without any problems and I don't doubt it will last for several more years at least if not more.

SINGER 7258 Stylist Model Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The only negative thing I can say about this machine is this: It's so much better than my Singer Esteem II that I'm wondering just how much better an even more expensive Singer would have been. Now that I've realized how much fun a better-than-basic machine can be, I'm starting to covet the machines that will do even fancier stitches and do letters.
With that said, I didn't really need to spend more than I did on this machine. So, I'm perfectly happy!
1. The instruction manual is incredibly detailed. My basic Singer Esteem covered many features so briefly that I really didn't know what I was doing. The Stylist manual even goes so far as to explain many of the included 100 stitches. The machine is pretty self-explanatory to get setup if you've sewed before. But it's nice that any questions you have are probably in the manual and won't require a long Google search.
2. It sews VERY smoothly. And it's so much quieter than my old machine.
3. The option to have the needle stop up or down might not seem like a big deal - but it's SO convenient once you get used to it. I love it!
4. The slider to control the speed of the machine without the foot pedal also gives some speed control when the foot pedal is attached. Although my daughter is too young to sew now, I imagine that being able to limit the foot pedal's speed for a beginner will be a great plus. And when piecing together long strips of fabric, in particular, the ability to sew without the foot pedal attached is a nice luxury. I was afraid it would be scary and hard to stop. But the Start/Stop button is located in a very convenient place, making it easy to stop the machine with your finger that's feeding the fabric through.
5. The stitches are really pretty. To bring back up my old Singer Esteem II - it had some extra stitches that looked quite awful and I wondered why anyone would ever use them. I kind of expected that with this model too, but since I sew mostly children's clothing, it didn't matter a lot to me if anything but standard stitches worked. But I have been very pleasantly surprised. I've already found myself embellishing some items with the pretty choices.
6. Can you believe how many presser feet are included with this machine? Really, that alone is what sold me on it. I compared with other machines that offered all the other features except for the feet, and some were even more money. I'd never gotten to use a ruffler foot before this. No more sewing a long stitch and pulling to create my ruffle - the machine does it for me! I've been experimenting with the embroidery foot. They're all awesome.
7. The ONLY problem I've had with the machine is this: When I have the needle in the setting to end "down", and I stop and need to remove my fabric, and I turn the wheel to move the needle, the thread gets too tight (upper thread) and breaks as I pull my fabric out. I've found that the simple solution is to turn the need to the "up" position, do a quick backstitch, and the thread pulls with no problem.
8. I've had zero problems with the bobbin so far. It is super easy to load. It hasn't jammed (which my old machine did all the stinking time!). And, while the plastic cover over the bobbin compartment originally concerned me because of durability questions, I'm really liking being able to see how much bobbin thread I have left. In my old, front loading bobbin machine, I was always surprised to run out of bobbin thread....often after having sewn a very long time without it (a big pain). Now I can keep an easy eye on it without having to unthread it.
So that's it. I love this machine. If you can afford a much more expensive machine, like $500+, then get it. But if you're looking in the $190-$300 range, this one seems to be one of the best. And if you're just starting sewing, skip the $100 machines and just go straight for this model. It's affordable, and makes sewing seem easier because the machine just does what it should.

Auto tie-off function for straight stitch lets you tie-off straight stitches with just a push of a button. Reinforcing the beginning and end of the seam prevents unraveling. The tacking stitch, with auto tie-off function for decorative stitches, ties-off at the beginning and end of a stitch sequence, also with just a push of a button. Push the conveniently located automatic reverse button to sew stitches in reverse. Most stitches can be set for a maximum width of 6-millimeters. When sewing decorative stitches or satin stitches, the wide stitches are bolder and more pronounced. An audible tone confirms pattern and function selection and with a maximum sewing speed of 750 stitches-per-minute, projects can be sewn quickly. With automatic presser foot pressure, the amount of pressure exerted on the fabric by the presser foot against the feed dogs is automatic. Sew from the lightest weight tricots to the heaviest denim, without making presser foot adjustments.

Bobbin Features and Built-in Stretch Stitches
The automatic bobbin winding clutch feature makes sure the needle bar automatically disengages when winding the bobbin, making bobbin winding safer because the needle won\'t move up and down. A bobbin winder stop will automatically stop turning when the bobbin is completely filled. Never worry about overfilling a bobbin again. Built-in stretch stitches are specially designed stitches that add strength and flexibility to seams. These are especially useful when sewing on knitwear and super-stretch fabrics. Optimal settings for length and width are automatically adjusted when choosing a stitch. This can be overridden to personalize length and width choice. When tapering with the zigzag stitch, the stitch tapers to the center, not the left or right. This provides a more attractive look when tapering into or out of a point.

Twin Needle Stitching and Optimum Power Control System
When twin needle sewing (optional), selected stitches can be adjusted for the twin needle by reducing the stitch width. Twin needle stitching creates two parallel rows adding a decorative touch. Thirteen needle positions allow changes for individual projects, such as inserting zippers or cording and topstitching. Singer optimum power control system senses when additional power is required to maintain speed through thick or changing fabric conditions. 6-Segment Feeding System
Extra-high presser foot lifter has 2 heights. The second height offers more clearance, which is needed when placing multiple layers of bulky fabric under the presser foot. A 6-segment feeding system is a specially designed feed dog that ensures that the fabric is picked up and supported from the front of the presser foot to the rear. My new Brother CS6000, with the attachments, fits nicely into the case: set the machine in, poke the foot pedal and cords in, put the top on, snap it into place. The plastic and latches seem sturdy, and the whole package is not too heavy to carry around.

SINGER 2932 Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I haven't been overly impressed with this machine. Unless you have a death grip on the starting threads, they will be pulled into the machine and lock it up. I found the foot patel very difficult to get use to. When I press down and it either sounds like the machine is having trouble starting up or goes 90mph and is hard to control. I've given it almost a month and just can't take it anymore. I'm taking this machine back tonight.
